Disability insurance through Social Security will begin as early as November 1. Because November 3 is a Sunday, the Agency has moved the SSDI payouts to that day.
Payday can’t be on a Sunday because SSA offices and banks are closed on Sundays. One way to solve this problem is to send the Disability Insurance checks on the first.
SSDI and SSI will share the payment date in early November
SSDI will be sent on the same day as Supplemental Security Income payments, which are usually due on November 1. This means that both recipients will get the same payment date.
Also, this is great news for people who are running out of money and are eligible for Supplemental Security Income and Social Security Disability Insurance.
You get your money 48 hours early because you don’t have to wait until November 3. So you can make a budget for each month and start getting the money on November 1. SSDI payouts will range from about $1,539 a month to up to $3,822 a month on average. The rise in the COLA won’t come until January 2025.
SSDI requirements in 2025
So far, the requirements to get Social Security Disability Insurance have not changed. So, you will still need to:
- Have a qualifying disability or be blind
- This disability must meet Social Security’s strict definition
- Workers with a qualifying disability must have earned enough work credits
- The necessary credits to get Social Security is usually 40, ten years of work, but younger workers may need fewer credits
- Filing for Social Security Disability Insurance is mandatory
- Your disability must affect you severely and it prevents you from working for over a year
Keep in mind that if you apply for SSDI, your family (spouse and children) may also be able to get payments. Family benefits can be a great way to add extra cash to your regular budget. If you don’t have much money or other means, you should look into SSI as well.
