ROCKINGHAM — People in East Rockingham say that a man who is on parole for just a few days stole a car.
Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says that on October 18, officers were called to Rogosin Street, which is off of Mill Road, because a 2007 Nissan Sentra had been stolen. Around 6:30 that morning, the car was allegedly stolen.
A picture of the suspect and the car was shared on the sheriff’s office’s Facebook page.
Four deputies were called to Millstone Road in Ellerbe on Monday, October 21, about two guys who were breaking the law. It is said that the two guys ran away on foot when the caller told them he was calling 911.
In a wooded area, the deputy who came to the scene of the crime allegedly found the stolen Nissan.
the suspects were later found and arrested on Center Street in Cordova after deputies were able to identify them.
Brian Eugene Overman, 44, of Cordova, California, is being held on a combined $21,000 secured bond after being charged with felony larceny of a motor car and first-degree trespassing.
Overman is being held without bond at the Richmond County Jail because he broke his parole.
Please note that the other person accused of trespassing is not named in the sheriff’s office news release.
Overman was released from prison in January after spending time for 2020 convictions in three counties, according to records from the N.C. Department of Adult Correction.”

His free time was set to end on October 26.
Back in 1998, Overman was found guilty of simple assault, theft, breaking and entering, and driving while license was suspended in Randolph County.
Later that same year, he was found guilty of cheating on property or services, fleeing to avoid arrest, and driving with a suspended license. This meant that his probation for the theft and B&E charges was taken away.
Overman has been convicted of many other crimes over the years, such as misdemeanor and felony theft, theft of motor fuel, possession of stolen goods, receiving stolen goods, possession of a Schedule II controlled drug, assault on a police officer, and assault on a child.
People who are being charged with a crime are thought to be innocent until they are found guilty in court.
