North Dakota – In a shocking case from North Dakota, a 48-year-old woman named I. Kenoyer was given a 25-year prison term for killing her 51-year-old boyfriend on purpose. Riley was poisoned with ethylene glycol at the end of the murder, which was motivated by a made-up multimillion-dollar fortune.
The events that led to Kenoyer’s conviction started on September 3, 2023, when Riley was taken to the hospital right away because she was very sick. His health quickly got worse, and he had to be airlifted to a different hospital, where he sadly died on September 5.
Later, an autopsy proved that the person had died of ethylene glycol poisoning, which is a common ingredient in antifreeze. The official cause of death was homicide.
Riley’s untimely death case took a major turn when, on October 30, 2023, Kenoyer was arrested after it was found that she had financial reasons for killing Riley. The head of investigations, Capt. D. Plessas, called the case “extremely complex.” He thanked the community for helping them gather important clues that helped them solve the case.
People who did this horrible thing did it because they were tricked and had the wrong beliefs. Kenoyer was tricked into thinking Riley was going to get a $30 million inheritance from a distant cousin. This false belief drove her tragic actions. Reports say Riley had even talked about leaving Kenoyer and giving his alleged inheritance to his kids.
Kenoyer acted quickly after learning this because she was afraid she would miss out on the fortune she thought she was due as Riley’s common-law wife. But her plans fell apart when detectives told her that North Dakota did not accept common-law marriages. This made her feelings even worse.
When police carried out a search warrant at the couple’s home, it was a big step forward in the case. A glass beer mug and a plastic beer cup were found in the shed. Both of them tested positive for antifreeze. When faced with a lot of proof, Kenoyer finally admitted that he had poisoned Riley’s sweet tea on purpose with antifreeze in an attempt to get a fortune that didn’t exist.
During the sentencing, Riley’s family gave moving comments about how the crime affected them. Riley’s sister was very sad and talked about how Kenoyer’s acts had hurt many relationships.
In court, she asked Kenoyer specifically, “How does it feel to have taken so much for nothing?” Kenoyer didn’t say anything during her sentencing, but she had already pleaded guilty to intentional murder, which is why she got this sentence plus an extra 25 years of probation after she got out of jail.
This terrible case shows how greed and lying can destroy lives. As Kenoyer starts her long prison sentence, Riley’s family is left to grieve and come to terms with what happened after such a cruel and stupid act. Even though the case is over, Riley will always remember how unfair it was and how much his family and friends lost. This will be remembered long after the case is no longer in the news.
