Two Social Security checks in November for these retirees – It’s now official

Many seniors are already getting their October Social Security benefits, so it’s time to look ahead to November. This is especially true now that fall has arrived and the countdown to Christmas has begun.

With Halloween coming up quickly, Thanksgiving and Black Friday coming up soon, and a long list of things to do for Christmas, retirees need to start planning how they will spend their money over the next three months so that they don’t run out of money too soon. The first step in doing this is to know when your payments are coming.

Social Security Calendar for the last Trimester of 2024

Even though October payments are almost fully distributed, it is worth reviewing the schedule just in case you missed a payment date and must contact the SSA.

  • Tuesday October 1st: Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments for all qualified individuals.
  • Thursday October 3rd: Retirement payment for retirees who claimed their Social Security payment before 1997, as well as Supplemental Security Disability Income (SSDI) payments for the same beneficiaries.
  • Wednesday October 9th: Retirement payment for retirees born between the 1st and the 10th of every month, as well as SSDI payments for the same beneficiaries.
  • Wednesday October 16th: Retirement payment for retirees born between the 11th and the 20th of every month, as well as SSDI payments for the same beneficiaries.
  • Wednesday October 23rd: Retirement payment for retirees born between the 21st and the 31st of every month, as well as SSDI payments for the same beneficiaries.

In November the calendar will not be as straightforward as in October because of a few reasons.

  • Friday, November 1: All qualified SSI recipients will get their payouts today. However, because the 3rd of the month is a Sunday, all payments have been moved to the business day before, which is Friday, November 1. This means that on this date, retirement payments will be sent to people who retired before 1997 and SSDI payments will be sent to the same type of people.
  • Wednesday November 13th: Retirement payment for retirees born between the 1st and the 10th of every month, as well as SSDI payments for the same beneficiaries as usual.
  • Wednesday November 20th: Retirement payment for retirees born between the 21st and the 31st of every month, as well as SSDI payments for the same beneficiaries as usual.
  • Wednesday November 27th: Retirement payment for retirees born between the 21st and the 31st of every month, as well as SSDI payments for the same beneficiaries as usual
  • Friday November 29th: This extra payment should not be included, however, the SSI payment for December is scheduled for Sunday, December 1st, which means that it needs to be moved to the prior date banks are open, in this case Friday November 29th.

Actually, there isn’t one less payment in December because of the extra payment in November. Let’s start by looking at the usual payments we can expect.

  • Tuesday December 3rd: Retirement payment for retirees who claimed their Social Security payment before 1997, as well as SSDI payments for the same beneficiaries.
  • Wednesday December 11th: Retirement payment for retirees born between the 1st and the 10th of every month, as well as SSDI payments for the same beneficiaries.
  • Wednesday December 18th: Retirement payment for retirees born between the 11th and the 20th of every month, as well as SSDI payments for the same beneficiaries.
  • Tuesday December 24th: Retirement payment for retirees born between the 21st and the 31st of every month, as well as SSDI payments for the same beneficiaries. It has been moved from Wednesday the 25th because of Christmas Day and advanced to Christmas Eve as the banks are open on this day.
  • Tuesday December 31st: While technically happening in December, this is the first SSI payment for January 2025. Because of New Year, the payment is sent out early on New Year’s Eve so that the banks are open. This payment will already be adjusted with the 2025 COLA.
