SNAP update: Food Stamps mass replacement waiver in this State after Hurricane Helene

SNAP update Food Stamps mass replacement waiver in this State after Hurricane Helene

First, the Georgia Department of Human Services extended the deadline for reporting any food loss as a result of Hurricane Helene. It was intended that SNAP participants would have more time to obtain replacements; but, since this State was granted waiver approval for the bulk replacement of Food Stamps, there is no need to verify the deadline.

For the record, there is no need to report the loss of food that you purchased using Food Stamps because some counties are eligible for this waiver. The aforementioned natural disaster’s power disruptions are the primary cause of the food loss.

When was the deadline to claim SNAP replacement in Georgia?

Beneficiaries of Food Stamps have been notified by the Georgia Department of Human Services that anyone living in specific counties who received SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) in September 2024 have until October 25th, 2024, to report food loss. After the waiver, reporting is not required, though.

In order to obtain a replacement of the qualified food they lost as a result of Hurricane Helene, eligible recipients will not need to submit the necessary paperwork. So, you might be eligible if you were impacted by the storm-related power disruptions.

There must have been at least four hours—if not longer—during these power interruptions. Check the complete list below to see if your county is eligible for the SNAP mass replacement waiver.
