General Motors: Legendary vehicle discontinued, thousands facing job cuts

General Motors Legendary vehicle discontinued, thousands facing job cuts

General Motors (GM) is making big changes at its assembly plant in Fairfax, Kansas. These changes will affect about 2,000 workers. This change comes as the company gets ready to stop making a once-popular Chevrolet model.

State records show that GM filed a Workers Adjustment and Retraining Notice last month, saying that it planned to let go of 1,695 workers at the Fairfax plant.

Consequences of the discontinuation of this iconic vehicle

The Drive said that the cuts are partly because the famous Chevy Malibu is no longer being made. The Malibu has been a mainstay of GM’s lineup, but it will no longer be made after November.

As production at Malibu slows down, the Fairfax Assembly Plant will go through a big change. CNN says that the factory will be changed so that the new generation of the Chevrolet Bolt EV can be made there.

Since the Malibu is no longer being made, GM’s main Chevy brand in the US will only offer trucks, SUVs, and the Corvette.

General Motors is ending a very important part of its past. The company said in May that it would no longer make the Chevy Malibu after almost 60 years. When the 2025 model comes out, this famous sedan will no longer be made. It will be the end of an age for this beloved car.

Transition to Electric Vehicles (EVs)

General Motors also said they were going to stop making the Camaro and the Malibu. As part of its plan to focus more on electric cars (EVs), the automaker made this choice.

“Being focused on EVs means we have to say goodbye to popular cars like the Chevy Malibu,” a Chevy official said in a recent press release.
