Crump and Lindsey named Homecoming King and Queen

ROCKINGHAM — While Richmond Senior High School was having its pep rally on Friday, two events that had been going on for a week came to an end.

The Raiders’ yearly homecoming game was just hours away when they named a new king and queen.

At the end of spirit week, the new Mr. and Miss School Spirit were named, along with the staff member who supports them the most.

Keidreion Crump and Jamyia Lindsey were chosen by their peers to be the class of 2025’s homecoming king and queen.

Bill West and Hanna Smith won Mr. and Miss School Spirit with outfits that spoke for themselves. The students at Richmond also chose Kisha Murray, who is an assistant bookkeeper, to be the school’s teacher representative.

Lindsey has played varsity basketball for four years and has verbally committed to NC A&T State University. She said that the nerves and joy were mixed together.

Lindsey said, “Today was a very special and exciting day for me, but it was also very scary.” “I’m grateful to be the homecoming queen for Richmond County.”

“I want to thank my peers for voting for me and supporting me, which made it possible for me to win this award.” Plus a big thank you to all the parents and kids who came today and showed love and support.

Crump, who starts at defensive back for the Raiders football team, said that the fun before the game was a pleasant treat.

Crump said, “Today was special, and it will be a day I remember.” “I was shocked when I found out I won, but I’m grateful to all my friends and anyone else who voted for me.”

“And I’m grateful for all the love and support today, both from the rest of the homecoming court and from everyone else.”

Each day of Richmond’s spirit week had a different theme, such as a music type, Disney, wacky or tacky, class swap, or green and gold. Judges of the spirit week court looked at the outfits that people wore on the first three days.

Smith, who plays three sports, dressed up as Bruno Mars, Merida from Disney, and a bunch of different characters. He wore a safety belt and a bowl of Froot Loops as a hat.

Smith said, “I was so happy to win Miss School Spirit.” “I went all out for spirit week every year because I loved it so much.”

Being on the homecoming court was even better after being named Miss School Spirit. I was so thrilled to win and speak for our senior senators.

West, who is Richmond’s place kicker and punter, dressed up as the rapper Kanye West, Monsters, Inc.’s Randall, and wore a safety vest and a Santa hat for crazy tacky day.

“Homecoming is a very important day for the homecoming court and senior football players,” West said. “The most exciting and memorable part of my day wasn’t the football game; it was when Mr. School Spirit was announced.”

“When you win the award, you don’t just represent yourself; you represent how much you love and care about your school.”

The Raiders then beat Union Pines 27-8 in their homecoming game on Friday, making it five wins in a row. The women in the homecoming court were honored before the game started.
