The man who police say stabbed his uncle during a fight has been charged.
Reports say that around 7:45 p.m. Oct. 3, the Hamlet Police Department got a call about a fight on Buttercup Drive.
Police say that Lonnie Antonia Breeden, 57, got into a fight with his uncle, who was not named, and that the uncle hit Lonnie.
Police say that the uncle ended up on the ground with a 2 to 3 inch cut on the right side of his neck during the fight. The person was taken to a hospital to get help.
Investigators say Breeden was still at the spot when police arrived.
A police report said Breeden tried to kill someone in the first degree and hit someone with a deadly weapon with the plan to kill.
Breeden is being held in the Richmond County Jail on a secured bail of $500,000. He is due in court on October 17.
Records from the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show that Breeden was first found guilty of driving while drunk in Cumberland County in 1995. In early 1997, his probation was taken away, and he spent a month in jail.
Breeden was found guilty of breaking the law a second time in 1998.
His second court order violation and DWI conviction came in 2002. He was also found guilty of using rude, harassing, or threatening words on the phone.
Records show that Breeden went back to prison for eight months in 2007 after being found guilty in Richmond County of two counts of assault on a female, two counts of violating a protective order, and one count of making threats, damaging property, and resisting a police officer.
Breeden spent another three months in jail in 2009 because he was found guilty of assaulting a woman.
People who are being charged with a crime are thought to be innocent until they are found guilty in court.
