Deputies caught two men on Wednesday. One of them was wanted on charges linked to a shooting.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office said that deputies were sent to Mill Street in East Rockingham because the Rockingham Police Department wanted 22-year-old Artavis Jahie Duncan for attempted murder.
The RPD says Duncan went into someone is yard on Mill Road around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 28. The victim reportedly told Duncan to leave, and as he did, Duncan is said to have turned around and fired several shots.
Police say two cars were hit, but the person who was described as being hurt wasn’t.
Duncan was caught and given to police officers from the RPD.
Among the charges against him are attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, having a gun while being a felon, firing a gun inside city lines, and two counts of damage to property.
Duncan was taken to the Richmond County Jail and is being held there without bond until Oct. 17, when he is due in court.
While officers were in the area, they were told that a man sitting on a picnic table—Isaac Daniel Sessoms, 19 years old from Rockingham—may have had outstanding warrants and a hidden gun.
Deputies found a 9mm pistol and an unknown amount of methamphetamine in Sessoms’ waistband.
The sheriff’s office said that the gun’s serial number had been taken off, so deputies could not tell if it had been stolen.
Sessoms was caught and charged with having methamphetamine on his person and having a gun with a serial number that had been changed or taken off.
Investigators say Sessoms was arrested and put under a $10,000 guaranteed bond, but it looks like he has been freed. He also has a court date set for Oct. 17.
Electronic court records show that Sessoms is facing charges of carrying a concealed weapon, speeding, reckless driving, and two counts of driving while licence has been suspended.
According to reports from the N.C. Department of Adult Correction, Duncan was found guilty of assault causing serious bodily injury in 2022.
Sessoms does not seem to have any past charges.
People who are being charged with a crime are thought to be innocent until they are found guilty in court.
