Texas is about to get cold enough to freeze

Texas is now in fall, and October means that the weather will start to get cooler, there will be more cold fronts, and yes, it will freeze. In October, many places in Texas start to see morning temperatures below freezing. By Halloween, some of those cities may even see freezing rain.

A lot of people also start to wonder, “When will it freeze?” at this time of year. The answer is different for each person because Texas is such a big state. If you live in Houston, the cold weather won’t hit your area as quickly as it does in Lubbock.

One more thing that is hard to figure out is when the first freeze will happen. When will it freeze for the first time in most places in Texas? The National Weather Service has an average date, but the Texas Almanack gives a few different dates. The Texas Almanack says that Lubbock will get its first freeze on November 1, but the National Weather Service says it will happen on October 31, and the Farmer’s Almanack says it will happen on October 28. It looks like you should find those jackets by the end of October.

Using past information from the National Weather Service and the Texas Almanack, we can figure out when people in Texas should get ready for it to freeze.

The National Weather Service says that the first frost will usually happen in Amarillo between October 16th and October 20th. If you look at TexasAlmanac.com, the most common date for Amarillo is October 20.

People in Houston, on the other hand, won’t see their first freeze of the year until about December 20.

This Is The Average Date of the First Freeze for Some Texas Cities.

Amarillo: October 20

Abilene: November 12

Dallas: November 25

Dalhart: October 16

Morton: October 24

Stratford: October 15

Lipscomb: October 11

Hereford: October 19

Fredericksburg: November 12

Lubbock: November 1

Wichita Falls: November 9

Austin: December 6

Even though it will still be in the high 80s and low 90s in Texas this week. Just get ready. For sure, you’ll need a jacket soon. At least in the morning.
