A city in Illinois was named one of the most likely targets of a nuclear attack

It really does get worse sometimes.

The news that we live near one of the 15 cities most likely to be hit by a nuclear attack should be enough to make you feel down.

In the top five are Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York. Most of us in Rockford have been to at least one of these cities.

The cities I’m talking about are Chicago, Naperville, and Elgin, which is even closer to Rockford.

A lot of people might not think of Chicago as a potential target, but it is only 50 miles away from four nuclear power plants. Naperville and Elgin are only 40 miles from Chicago, so if there was a nuclear attack, they would also be hit. The area with more than two million people was ranked fourth out of 15 for the number of evacuations. The attack was expected to kill 626,170 people and hurt more than 1.1 million more.
