License Renewal for Seniors in Florida: What You Need to Know

License Renewal for Seniors in Florida What You Need to Know

Driver License

No one younger than 79 years old can get a Florida Class E driver license more than eight times. At age 80, drivers licenses need to be updated every six years. People in Florida may be able to update their Class E driver’s license online. You can check to see if you can renew online at MyDMV Portal.

People over the age of 80 who want to renew their driver’s license but can’t do it online have to pass an eye test. At no extra cost, the test can be taken at a Florida driving license service center.

Customers can also have their vision test done by a medical doctor, osteopathic doctor, or optometrist who is qualified to work in Florida. The customer or their doctor must fill out and send in the Mature Driver Vision Test form (HSMV 72119 S), which can be found here, once the vision test is over.

If the vision test shows any health problems that need to be treated by an eye expert, like a Florida-licensed ophthalmologist or an optometrist, the customer must fill out and send in HSMV Form 72010, which is the Report of Eye Exam Form from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.

ID Card

There may come a time when driving is no longer safe. If that happens, FLHSMV tells people to give up their license and get an ID card. When it comes to showing proof of identity, Florida’s ID card works exactly the same way as a driver’s license.

It can be used anywhere that needs a photo ID, like airports, doctors’ offices, banks, and more. Also, the paperwork you need for both a driver’s license and an ID card is the same. At a Florida driver license service station, people can get an ID card.

Driver License and ID Card Fees

The fee plan has a list of all the fees we charge right now.

Credit cards from American Express, Master Card, and Discover can be used at all FLHSMV service centers. Different County Tax Collector’s Offices may accept different types of credit cards. If you have any questions about fees or accepted forms of payment, please call the service center ahead of time.
