Raiders lost at Lee County because of mistakes

SANFORD— The Richmond Senior High School boys’ soccer team tied its season high for goals scored in a single game on Monday, but it wasn’t enough to win.

The Raiders had tied their last two games, but that changed when they played Lee County High School, a team from the Sandhills Athletic Conference.

Even though Richmond kept the game close at times, the Yellow Jackets won 7-3 in the end.

Head coach Chris Larsen said, “We made too many mistakes tonight.” “In the back, we gave away too many passes and couldn’t connect them.” We didn’t have the same energy tonight as we did in our last two games.

He went on, “I thought the guys played better in the first 15 minutes of the second half.” “I think it would have been a closer game if we had played like that from the start,” There were times when we played really well.

Lee County went ahead 2-0 before RVA senior Landon Summerlin cut the lead in half. After a foul in the box on senior partner Noah Gil, he scored on a penalty kick.

In the 32nd minute, Summerlin’s dart went low and into the net to the right of the guard.

The Yellow Jackets (5-7, 2-2 SAC) scored twice more to go ahead 4-1 at the break.

After the break, the Raiders cut the lead to one goal again. Gui Romero, a senior foreign exchange student, scored his first goal of the season in the 48th minute.

In the 52nd minute, Gil scored a laser goal to make it 4-3 after getting away from a defender and spinning around him.

In the 54th, 61st, and 78th minutes, Lee County scored its last three goals to secure the win.

Thursday at 6 p.m., Richmond (1-9-2, 0-3-1 SAC) will play Southern Wayne High School (2-6), which is not in the SAC.

JV Raiders blank Lee County

The junior varsity boys’ soccer team from Richmond won their game at Lee County on Monday.

The JV Raiders beat the JV Yellow Jackets 5-0, with four different players scoring goals.

In the first half, Richmond had a two-goal lead thanks to two goals from youngster Allen Franco.

Freshmen Javeon Littlejohn, Bryan Mendoza, and Martin Lopez all scored goals in the second half.

For now, the JV Raiders (6-4-2, 3-0-1 SAC) don’t play again until next Monday at 5:15 p.m., when they host Scotland High School.
