“PAYDIRT” WITH KEYONTA DAVIS

The Raiders beat Southern Lee 41–7 on Friday to start SAC play. The win gave the team a 3-2 record overall.

Davis ended the game with four catches, which was half of the Raiders’ total. He gained 83 yards and scored two touchdowns on those catches. Both of his touchdowns and catching yards set new highs for him in a single game.

Both of Davis’s scores in the second half came after he caught two passes from junior quarterback Domonic Tillman. Davis’ speed turned the short passes into long scores.

On back-to-back plays, Davis scored through the air. His first score was a 32-yard catch and run. He caught the ball in the right flat and sped over and past several players to score. With 5:04 left in the third quarter, the score was 27-0.

After another drive, Davis ran a cut over the middle of the field to make room for Tillman to pass to him. Davis ran into the end zone unharmed as he turned up field. The five-play, 93-yard drive ended with that 31-yard touchdown as the fourth quarter began.

In five games so far this season, Davis has the most receptions (13), yards gained (194), yards gained per game (48.5), and scores gained (three). It takes him an average of 14.9 yards to catch a pass.

Thursday, Richmond (3-2) plays at Pinecrest High School (4-0) in league play. The game starts at 7 p.m.
