(Valparaiso, IN) – Six teens were arrested in Valparaiso last week for making threats against a school in the area, which caused some concern.
The cops looked into a possible threat of violence at Thomas Jefferson Middle School last Thursday, September 12. At first, officials didn’t think the threats were real, but when the threats came up again at the end of the school day, they locked down some students in their lockers.
Valparaiso police said in a statement that the threats included a list of specific people who could be hurt.
The police then found and arrested six young people. They were arrested and taken to the Porter County Juvenile Detention Center on charges that they made or shared dangerous information with the public.
Valparaiso is one of many police departments in the area that will not stand for threats to schools. “Any threat is taken very seriously by the Valparaiso Police Department and the Valparaiso Community Schools,” said Andrew McIntyre, chief of police for the city of Valparaiso. “We are always concerned about the safety of our children, which makes for a safe place to learn.”
Also earlier this week, two teens in Lake County were caught making threats against schools. A SWAT team also arrested an 18-year-old in Elkhart County on Wednesday for making threats against Goshen High School.
