Three people were hurt in an accident on U.S. Highway 1 just south of Pinebluff on Saturday night. Two of them had to be flown because they were in such bad shape. The crash happened at the crossing of U.S. Highway 1 and Park Avenue. The highway was closed for a long time, and a landing zone was set up nearby.
The police told the Sandhills Sentinel that the accident happened when a Chevy Suburban hit a Toyota truck from behind. Both cars went off the road in the high-impact crash, with the truck going off the road and into the trees. Both vehicles got really bad damage.
The driver of the Toyota truck was stuck inside, and firemen had to work carefully to get him out of the wreckage without hurting him.
Authorities at the scene said that the driver and passenger of the Suburban were badly hurt. They were taken to the Pinebluff ball field, where two medical helicopters landed and flew them to a trauma center.
It took an ambulance to get the truck driver to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital. We don’t know what’s wrong with him right now.
U.S. Highway 1 was closed for a long time while rescue crews arrived.
The crash’s reason is being looked into by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
