The 10 North Carolina cities with the most drunk people in 2024

There’s nothing wrong with being known as the state’s most drunk city. Everyone in the United States deals with addiction in some way, and North Carolina is no different.

One in fifteen North Carolinians over the age of 18 binges drink at least once a month, and the most frequent binge drinkers do it more than four times a month.

In North Carolina, almost 70% of people who die from drinking too much are men, and most of those men are over 35 years old.

In order to find the “drunkest” towns in the state, RoadSnacks looked into a few interesting factors.

They looked at how many bars, pubs, and liquor shops there were per person as well as drinking-related posts on social media. For fun, they also included the divorce rates in the area, since studies have shown a link between heavy drinking and higher divorce rates.

Here are North Carolina’s top 10 drunkest cities:

  1. Carolina Beach tops the list with its abundance of bars, making it a hotspot for both locals and tourists. Its high divorce rate also hints at the consequences of its party lifestyle.
    • Population: 5,755
    • Divorce rate: 18.5%
    • Bars per capita: 1st
    • Liquor stores per capita: 9th
  2. Asheville
  3. Kill Devil Hills
  4. Waynesville
  5. Carrboro
  6. Brevard
  7. Raleigh
  8. Oak Island
  9. Morehead City
  10. Black Mountain

Even though Black Mountain is only home to 7,855 people, it has a lot of bars and booze stores for a small town. It is a great place to raise a glass (or two) because it is close to Asheville.

There You Have It

The most drinking spots in North Carolina can be found in these places, which range from beach towns to mountain getaways.
