It had been several weeks since the guy, 21, was last seen. He was found at the bottom of a 50-foot-deep well outside of a church in Virginia.
Police say that church members called the officials when they smelled something bad coming from the well. At about 12:15 p.m. on Monday, emergency medical workers went to the St. Stephan Rzua Church in Bracey. The well is 50 feet deep and 2 feet wide. First rescuers climbed inside and found Graham Norris Horne’s body.
According to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, first responders found the body in the well and took it to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of Virginia, where fingerprints were used to definitely identify the person.
Horne was last seen traveling on August 15 with his religion group, Met by Love Ministries, which is based in North Carolina. The group got gas at Simmons Truck Stop in Bracey, Virginia.
According to the cops, Horne got into a fight with some of the group’s members and then left on his own. The person who lived at home didn’t have a cell phone or any ties to the area at that time. The gas station where the group stayed is only six miles from where Horne’s body was discovered.
In a statement, the South Hill Volunteer Fire Department, which helped the family and friends of the person who died, said, “Our hearts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.” “We ask that you keep our first responders in your thoughts and prayers as well.”
The department also talked about it in a Facebook post on Monday, writing:
“Our team went to Lake Gaston to answer a very difficult and demanding technical rescue call.” The operation put our skills and strength to the test, but we stayed true to our promise to help this community.
The death of Horne is still being looked into. The South Hill Volunteer Fire Department, the Lake Gaston Fire Department, and Southside Rescue all sent officers to the scene. The cause of death has not been made public yet.
