The Los Angeles Rams are in big trouble right now. In the same way, the Carolina Panthers are almost there, but for a different reason. Why these two teams should trade with each other? Because each team can give something to the other to help them keep their seasons going.
The Rams need a wide receiver to help them out since both Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp are hurt. Nacua sprained his PCL and might not be able to play for five to seven weeks. After the second week loss to the Arizona Cardinals, Kupp hurt his ankle and was seen with it in a boot after the game.
It’s likely that Kupp will miss time, even though the official word on his injury hasn’t come in yet. Here are the wide receivers that the Rams will start: Demarcus Robinson, Tyler Johnson, and Jordan Whittington. With a record of 0-2 they can’t let their receiving room stop them. They need to trade for one.
That’s where the Panthers come in. Carolina also needs help at receiver, but not as badly as they need help at quarterback. Perhaps it’s time to put Bryce Young on the bench for a while and let him learn.
Young is throwing faster and into clear double coverage, which shows that his trust is starting to drop. Jimmy Garoppolo is a vet quarterback for the Rams who would be a great person for Young to learn from.
In exchange, the Panthers might want to trade Diontae Johnson. As things stand, Carolina would still have Adam Thielen, Jonathan Mingo, and Xavier Legette for Garoppolo to work with and keep the offense stable. Johnson played in 79 games for the Rams and threw for 4,382 yards and 25 touchdowns.
And with Sean McVay in charge, Johnson would finally get the chance to be the top wide receiver. The system would make full use of him. When Nacua and Kupp return, Johnson will finally round out the receiving group. This will give Matthew Stafford three great targets to throw to for the Rams.
Both teams need to make this move to fix a big problem that is holding them back right now if they want to get off to a better start than 0-2 so far.
