When a woman in North Carolina won a huge amount of money on a scratch-off ticket, her good feelings about the lottery finally came true.
Jen Conyers from Rocky Mount said, “Every time I get a scratch-off I think, ‘This is it.'”
An NC Education Lottery press statement says that Conyers’ $25 Spectacular Riches ticket, which she recently bought at the 301 Market on South McDaniel Street in Enfield, was this time the lucky one. The lucky lottery ticket won the woman from Nash County the game’s final $1 million top prize. She and her family had a hard time believing it was real.
People from the lottery said, “I was shocked.” She also said that she called her son to tell him the good news. “He said, ‘Are you serious.'”
Conyers collected her prize at the lottery headquarters on Friday, September 13. She could have gotten her money as a $50,000 payment every year for 20 years, or she could have gotten it all at once for $600,000. In the end, she chose the second option and took home a total of $429,007 after all the state and federal taxes were taken out.
Lottery officials say Conyers will pay off her home and buy her son a car with the money she won.
