As of today, Social Security stated that two more disability benefits payments will be mailed within the next few weeks to people who applied for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits after May 1997. Receiving Social Security funds gives millions of retirees and disabled people peace of mind because they can’t work because of an illness or injury.
They look forward to enjoying their golden years after working for more than 35 years. The Social Security Administration (SSA) says that about 67 million Americans, or one in five, are currently getting payments from Social Security.
Four out of five recipients are older people. The other five are either retired workers or young people whose parents or spouses died while they were working.
Requirements to qualify for the 2 new payments from the disability benefits program
It’s not easy to apply for SSDI benefits, but if you gather the necessary paperwork and make sure you meet all the requirements, you should be able to get them. People in the US who are disabled and want to get SSDI payments must show that they have a disability that keeps them from working or doing substantial gainful activity (SGA).
They must also show that they paid their payroll taxes before they became disabled. You might need to find other ways to make money, though, since disability payments might not be enough to cover all your costs.
Also, to get disability payments, a person must meet the Social Security definition of disability, which says they can’t work for pay because of a serious illness that has been going on for a year or more or because they are about to die. Some recipients may also be able to get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments in addition to SSDI payments.
Even though the goals of these two schools are different, many people can get into both if they meet their strict requirements. Keep in mind that the current rules from the SSA don’t say you have to fill out two different applications, and SSI benefits can’t be more than your monthly income.
When will beneficiaries receive their disability benefits this month?
This year’s Social Security payment plan says that disabled people who applied for benefits after May 1997 will always get them on the second, third, and fourth Wednesday of each month, unless it’s a holiday or weekend.
If you are eligible for these benefits and don’t get your check on time, you should wait at least three mailing days before calling the Social Security Administration (SSA). Please see below for the two confirmed payment dates coming up, so you can put them on your calendar:
- Third Tuesday (September 18th). Disabled people who meet requirements and were born between the 11th and the 20th will get their disability benefits.
- Fourth Wednesday (September 25th). Disabled people who meet requirements and were born between the 21st and the 31st will get their disability benefits.
In general, disabled people get disability benefits worth about $1,537 a month. Those who are qualified for the highest payment can get up to $3,822 a month in disability benefits. However, there is another payment amount available for people who are blind and qualified.
These people will get $2,590 every month. Don’t forget that the Social Security Administration has a meaning of blindness that you must meet in order to be a blind beneficiary.
A central vision acuity of 20/200 or less in the better eye with a correcting lens is what the law says makes someone blind. If you want to know if you qualified, the SSA will look at your best-corrected central visual acuity for distance in your better eye.
