News about disability benefits Who can get a new SSDI check on Wednesday

The federal agency in charge of sending monthly benefits to people who receive Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income benefits is called the Social Security Administration (SSA). On September 11th, the SSA confirmed that a new payment would be sent out.

It’s important to know that people who want this payment must first be eligible for SSDI benefits and have met all the requirements, such as having worked in the past, showing that they have a disability that keeps them from doing a substantial gainful activity (SGA), and having paid into Social Security before they got disabled. Find out more about the next payouts and how much money the recipients will get this month.

Who can receive a new SSDI check on Wednesday?

People with disabilities who depend on disability benefits to make ends meet and, in some cases, get out of poverty need to know how the Social Security payment schedule works. This is especially true for low-income seniors and disabled people who apply for Supplemental Security Income benefits.

More than 5 million payments are sent every month from the disability benefits program to people who meet all the standards. The SSA has to make more than 71 million payments every year, so the government agency set up a payment schedule to make sure that disabled people get their benefits on time.

The SSA gives out five rounds of benefits every month, as shown in this payment plan. SSI recipients get their payments on the first of every month, while RSDI recipients who got benefits before May 1997 get their payments on the third of every month.

Once these payments are made, the SSA will send three more payments to injured people who applied for disability benefits after May 1997. These payments will be sent on the second, third, and fourth Wednesdays. So, people who haven’t gotten their benefits yet will do so on one of three payment dates based on their date of birth, which are listed below:

  • On the second Wednesday, beneficiaries who receive disability benefits will receive their checks if they were born between the 1st and the 10th.
  • On the third Wednesday, beneficiaries who receive disability benefits will receive their checks if they were born between the 11th and the 20th.
  • On the fourth Wednesday, beneficiaries who receive disability benefits will receive their checks if they were born between the 21st and the 31st.

With this way of payment, people who get RSDI will get their Social Security checks on September 11, 18, and 25. Remember that you should wait at least three mailing days before calling SSA customer service if your monthly check doesn’t come on the expected date.

How much money will SSDI beneficiaries receive in disability benefits this Wednesday?

The Social Security Administration says that people who get Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) get an average of $1,537 a month. People who paid into the program based on their highest taxable income before they got sick can get up to $3,822.

The SSDI program also gives monthly checks of $2,590 to people who meet the Social Security Administration’s standards for being blind. In addition to these monthly payments, disabled people can also get a yearly boost from the cost of living adjustment (COLA), which will be made public in October.

If a beneficiary knows the exact percentage, they should know that starting in January 2025, the SSA will add that percentage to their monthly checks. The Senior Citizens League (TSCL) says that the exact cost of living adjustment percentage won’t be made public until next month.

However, this increase could be anywhere from 2.63 to 3.2%. To get a better idea of how the 2025 COLA raise might affect disability payments, we’ve added the following projection:

Disability benefits Social Security checks 2.63% COLA increase 3.2% COLA increase
On average $1,537 $1,577 $1,586
Blind recipients $2,590 $2,658 $2,673
Maximum payment $3,822 $3,923 $3,944
