The Charlotte Observer and the News & Observer of Raleigh now list six more teams each week as one of the best high school football teams in North Carolina.
- The top five spots in the 4A poll stayed the same. Hough moved up two spots to No. 6.
- In 3A, Hickory is still the best team because it hasn’t lost yet. No. 9 on the list is Cape Fear, which has never lost (2-0).
- There are three new teams in 2A. They are No. 7 James Kenan (3-0), No. 8 Randleman (3-0), and No. 9 Farmville Central (3-0).
- This week, Mitchell (2-1) and Bishop McGuinness (2-0) are added to the 1A poll.
Today is the first day of the season for the first N.C. private school poll. Providence Day is No. 1, ahead of Rabun Gap and Charlotte Christian. They have won the state title three times.
