The North Carolina Education Lottery says that a woman from Charlotte won $1 million from a scratch-off ticket.
Arely Mayorga Martinez said that her husband bought the lucky $10 Multiplier Mania ticket at the BP on Steele Creek Road in Shopton Commons.
After that, he took it home from her to scratch.
Martinez remembered, “I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.”
When she found out that her ticket had a $1 million prize on it, she put it somewhere safe until she could claim it.
She said, “We hid it under our mattress.”
Martinez went to the lottery officials’ office on Thursday and chose the $600,000 lump sum.
Officials with the lottery say she ended up with $429,003.
Martinez said that after she wins, she will finally buy a house, which has been her dream.
