This means that some people who get SNAP will not get a raise, but a decrease. But this will only happen in Hawaii because the most people can get on Food Stamps is going down there.
As of October 1, 2024, the 2025 COLA raise for SNAP will be in place. If you get Food Stamps and live in one of the 48 contiguous states, Alaska, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, or the District of Columbia, you will get your extra money.
State with the largest SNAP benefits
Alaskans who get SNAP will get the biggest boost. For instance, if you live in a city, you can get $374, but if you are a person, you can get $377. People who live in Rural 1 can now get up to $481, up from $477. It can go up to $586 in Rural 2, up from $581.
In other words, the rise could be as much as $5 a month for a person. You can get up to $2,265 (city), $2,888 (rural 1), or $3,516 (rural 2) for a family of eight.
These amounts are higher than they were before: $2,246, $2,865, and $3,487. So, if you live in Rural 2 and have eight people in your family, you can get an extra $29 in SNAP. The list with the biggest rise is:
- Alaska (rural 2)
- Alaska (rural 1)
- Alaska (urban)
- Guam
- The U.S. Virgin Islands
- The 48 contiguous States and D.C.
New SNAP maximum amounts in other States and territories
Keep in mind that not all people who get Food Stamps can get the highest amounts. This is because you might have other ways to make money. If you work or get SSI or Social Security, your payments will go down. On top of that, this is just an extra and isn’t meant to cover all of your food costs.
