Social Security sends monthly payments to people who are qualified for SSDI. But these disability payments aren’t just for people who work. In addition to the worker, some family members, like partners or children, may also get paid every month.
In fact, the Social Security Administration says that the average payment for a spouse who is qualified is $421 a month and $491 a month for a child who is eligible. This occurred in July 2024.
What is the average SSDI payment for workers with a disability?
The most recent Monthly Statistical Snapshot for July 2024 showed that people who get disability insurance get about $1,538 a month on average. It has actually gone up since the last report for June.
In 2024, some people who got SSDI may have been able to get the biggest payment. They can get a check for up to $3,822 this year from that. Here’s what you need to do to get $3,822 from SSDI:
- having a qualifying disability
- recipients must have worked for 35 years
- must have jobs covered by SSA
- must have filed when SSA allows to get the full amount
- must have earned the taxable maximum for 35 years
SSDI payment dates for workers, spouses, and children
If you are a worker, a partner, or a child, you will get your checks on the same dates every month. There are three more paychecks coming in September for people with disabilities.
In this case, if you were born between January 1 and October 10, your Disability Insurance check will be sent on September 11. If your birthday is later in the month, you’ll get paid later as well.
People whose birthdays are between September 21 and September 31 will get their last SSDI payment on September 25. There will be a Disability Insurance payment on September 18 between those two times.
Of course, your birthday must fall between November 11th and December 20th, no matter what month it is. They will send you their next checks on October 1 if you get SSI and October 3 if you get SSDI.
