People who get both SSI and SSDI can get both benefits from the Social Security Administration as long as they meet the income and other standards for both.
That means that some people who get Disability Insurance will also be able to get SSI in October. You can only get Supplemental Security Income if you have a low income, which means that your Disability Insurance amount must also be low.
SSDI requirements to qualify in October
The Social Security Administration will have to check that your disability fits their very strict criteria. If it’s not qualified, you won’t be able to get Disability Insurance payments.
Besides having a disability that meets the requirements, you must have worked and paid Social Security fees. Such as, you need to have worked for 9.5 years in order to get Disability Insurance when you are 60 years old.
On average, Disability Insurance pays out about $1,537 a month. This means that a lot of people who get SSI don’t qualify because they get a lot more than what SSA lets them get. But you have to apply so that the SSA can look into your unique situation.
