Florida Trio Admits to Massive Tax Fraud Scheme: Fake Returns and False Refunds
According to Due, three men from Florida have admitted to a big tax fraud scheme. Christopher Johnson and Jasen Harvey pleaded guilty to working together to cheat the IRS out of money. As part of the same plan, Arthur Grimes had already admitted to getting in the way of the IRS.
From 2015 to 2018, Johnson and Harvey made up big tax withholdings on fake tax forms in order to get big refunds. They charged clients fees and kept some of the fake returns for themselves.
As part of his job, Grimes made false tax returns with Harvey’s help. If he told the IRS the truth, they would send the money back to a different bank account. In 2016 and 2017, Johnson also filed fake tax returns, leaving out income that cost the government a lot of money.
Sentencing Dates Set: Johnson and Harvey Face Up to Five Years, Grimes Up to Three Years in Tax Fraud Case
Johnson and Harvey could each get up to five years in prison, but their times of sentencing have not been set yet. On November 12, 2024, Grimes will be given his punishment. He could spend up to three years in jail for what he did.
