U-Haul Settles $5.085 Million Data Breach Lawsuit Affecting California Customers

California Residents Can Claim Up to $100 from U-Haul Settlement by October 15, 2024

News from  The U.S. Sun says that  U-Haul has agreed to pay $5.08 million to settle a class action case about data breaches that affected customers in California. People said that U-Haul did not protect personal information well enough during two data breaches, one in September 2022 and the other in December 2023. This settlement answers those claims. People who weren’t supposed to have been there may have gotten to private data like customer names and driver’s license numbers during these breaches. U-Haul says it didn’t do anything wrong, but the company agreed to the deal to avoid the extra costs and problems that would come with a long court case.

People who live in California, where the breaches happened, must be qualified for a payout from this settlement. People who are eligible may get up to $100, but the exact amount may change based on how many claims are made. This area should be available to about 259,300 people. Two different claims can be made by the 2,458 people who were affected by both breaches. People who were hurt must make their claims by October 15, 2024, in order to get paid.
