An Arizona pastor has been indicted for allegedly deploying a hidden camera to photograph women in his church bathroom.
Arturo Laguna, a religion leader at the Casa de Adoracion in Phoenix, was detained on November 6. He was accused of putting the recording device in the bathroom in October. A grand jury indicted him on the allegations this month, and he is set to appear in court this week.
According to a police complaint acquired by Fox 10, a lady discovered the camera when it fell out of a dryer in the bathroom as she was changing her baby’s diaper.
Detectives later received a screenshot of Laguna repairing the camera in the restroom. He later admitted to having installed the device in October.
During the check of the camera’s SD card, officers discovered four short films of adult ladies using the restroom, according to Fox 10.
Laguna was charged with many counts of voyeurism, which is a felony in Arizona.
The charges originate from violating someone’s privacy by recording or photographing them without their consent for sexual stimulation. Sentences might last up to many years in prison.
Laguna heads a primarily immigrant church in Phoenix with around 100 members, and he previously spoke with the Associated Press about the presidential campaign. The interview, in which he explored the impact of the Latino vote on the state, took place in October.
Laguna remains in detention until his next court date on January 8.
