An Ohio prison officer was slain Christmas morning after being assaulted at the Ross Correctional Institution, as reported by our news partner WBNS Cincinnati.
According to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, the officer that was killed was Andrew Lansing. The convict accused of the assault has been sent to the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility, according to the ODRC.
In a statement, the ODRC requested the public to remember Lansing’s family and loved ones.
“Officer Lansing was a long-term, well-respected employee at Ross, and his tragic death on Christmas Day is heartbreaking for his family, the whole Ross Correctional Institution family, and our organization as a whole.
Officer Lansing was well-liked by his coworkers and was recognized for being a strong supporter of other RCI employees. He was a kind, outgoing officer who treated everyone with respect and was always professional, according to a statement from the agency.
According to the ODRC, the institution is operating under restricted movement while the Ohio State Highway Patrol investigates the event.
