Hospitalized for testing and observation following a fever, Bill Clinton

Former President Bill Clinton was admitted to a Washington, D.C., hospital on Monday afternoon for “testing and observation after developing a fever,” according to a statement from his aide.

“President Clinton was admitted to MedStar Georgetown University Hospital this afternoon for testing and observation after developing a fever,” wrote Angel Ureña, Clinton’s deputy chief of staff, on X. “He remains in good spirits and deeply appreciates the excellent care he is receiving.”

Clinton, 78, was also admitted to a Southern California hospital in 2021 for an infection that had spread to his blood, but was released six days later.

Clinton underwent potentially life-saving quadruple coronary bypass surgery in September 2004. After experiencing chest pains in February 2010, he was admitted to the hospital to have a clogged heart artery opened. Two stents were inserted into the artery as part of a common medical procedure for people with severe heart disease.

During the presidential campaign, he campaigned for Vice President Kamala Harris. Last month, he published his latest book, “Citizen: My Life After the White House,” which chronicles his post-presidency.

In it, he reflects on the major events of the last two decades since his presidency, such as 9/11, the Iraq War, the Jan. 6 Capitol attack, the pandemic, and the culture wars.
