OXON HILL, Md. – A 14-year-old kid at Potomac High School in Oxon Hill, Maryland, was severely attacked last Thursday, with some of the attack captured on mobile phone video.
The girl’s parents are demanding justice and have called on authorities to arrest the juvenile suspects implicated in the crime.
The event occurred in a utility room on school grounds, where the girl was ambushed by seven other kids. The victim’s mobile phone film shows her crying in pain as the attackers repeatedly beat her in the head and face, eventually breaking her nose as she crouches on the ground.
Following the assault, the girl was discovered in the utility closet, severely injured and unresponsive in her own blood. Her parents said it took school officials around 30 minutes to find her.
Emergency personnel eventually brought her to a hospital for treatment.
The girl’s father, who spoke with FOX 5’s Shomari Stone, expressed his concerns about his daughter’s safety, saying, “I don’t feel safe sending my daughter back to any PG County school to be honest with you, because if this happened at this school, I’m pretty sure that there are rules and regulations in their training programs, it’s all the same.”
A spokesman for Prince George’s County Public Schools stated, “Student safety is our first priority. A student was injured during an altercation at Potomac High School on December 5. Our safety and security personnel swiftly responded to the incident. School district authorities have contacted the student’s family, and we are working to provide any required mental health help to the victim. The incident is under active investigation. We are unable to share any additional information due to FERPA privacy rules.
Prince George’s County police have encouraged the girl’s family to contact the Department of Juvenile Services about possible criminal charges. The family is currently awaiting an update on the investigation.
