The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) always requires certification. The Food Stamps certification period may not be as long for all recipients. In reality, certain groups are subject to unique restrictions that may result in a shorter certification time if a requirement is not met. Who will be affected by the SNAP ABAWD time limit in 2025?
This rule will impact anyone between the ages of 18 and 54, but particularly those aged 53 and 54. This is because they were not subject to this rule until October 1, 2024.
If they did not work in October, November, or December and received SNAP payments, they will lose their Food Stamps by 2025. Make sure you get a job if you haven’t already.

If you reside in a location with a high unemployment rate, you might want to consider other options:
- working as a volunteer
- taking part in authorized SNAP work programs
- combining work and training
- taking part in workfare for the number of hours required
Check if you are exempt from the ABAWD’s labor requirements and time limit:
- a person who is pregnant
- having a qualifying disability
- having an under-18 in your household
- being excused from general work requirements
- being a Veteran
- were in foster care on your 18th birthday (24 or younger)
