ROCKINGHAM — A Richmond County man faces drug charges and is accused of failing to stop for a constable.
According to the arrest warrant, a deputy sought to stop a 1995 Nissan pickup truck on U.S. 1 on November 27 because it had a bogus license plate.
According to the warrant, the driver refused to stop, drove dangerously, and exceeded the speed limit by more than 15 mph.
According to the warrant, the truck’s driver, Austin Dwayne Brigman, 28, possessed an undetermined amount of methamphetamine and fentanyl.
Brigman was arrested and charged with evading arrest with a motor vehicle, possessing methamphetamine, possessing with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver methamphetamine, possessing a Schedule II controlled substance, and maintaining a vehicle, dwelling, or place for a controlled substance.
He also received eight traffic citations.
Brigman was taken into the Richmond County Jail and is being held on a $150,000 secured bond. He is expected to appear in court on December 12 for criminal charges and January 16 for traffic offences.
According to online court records, Brigman is facing a pending allegation of possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as many driving offences.
According to records with the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, Brigman was convicted of driving with a revoked licence in 2021.
All defendants who face criminal charges are deemed innocent until proven guilty in court.
