Hakeem Jeffries condemns Thanksgiving Day threats against House Democrats, calling them "unacceptable."

House Minority Leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., condemned Thanksgiving Day threats against Democratic lawmakers, which ranged from “detailed threats of a pipe bomb placed in mailboxes to swatting” in a statement on Friday.

On Thursday, multiple House Democrats from Connecticut, including Reps. Jahana Hayes, Jim Himes, and Joe Courtney, received bomb threats at their homes.

“Thanks to the swift reaction from law enforcement, no devices were found and Members of Congress and their families were kept safe on the holiday,” Jeffries said in a statement.

According to Jeffries, the threats against Democrats were signed with “MAGA” (Make America Great Again), the campaign slogan of President-elect Donald Trump.

The threats came just one day after several of Trump’s cabinet nominees received similar bomb threats.

“America is a democracy.” Threats of violence against elected officials are unacceptable, unethical, and have no place in a civil society. ”

All perpetrators of political violence against any party must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Jeffries wrote.
