A North Carolina man won $2 million with a scratch-off lottery ticket while buying vegetables for his wife.

Robert Moore of Dallas said that when he returned from the store with the ticket, he gave it to his wife to scratch.

“She said ‘You need to come in here,'” Moore remembers. “I could not believe it.”

Moore, a retired veteran, purchased his lucky $20 “Win Big” ticket at a Walmart on Dallas Cherryville Road in Dallas and won the new game’s first $2 million grand prize.

Moore was faced with a decision when he arrived at lottery headquarters on Monday. He could choose between receiving the prize as a $100,000 annuity over 20 years or as a lump sum of $1.2 million.

He chose a lump sum of $1.2 million and received $858,006 after state and federal taxes were withheld.

Moore bought a brand-new pickup truck just a week before claiming his prize and intends to use some of his winnings to pay it off.

The “Win Big” game debuted last month, offering three $2 million prizes and six $100,000 prizes. Following Moore’s win, two $2 million and five $100,000 prizes remain.
