Two teenagers and an adult were charged with shooting each other in Hamlet.

Hamlet — An adult and two teenagers are facing charges after allegedly shooting at each other late last week.

According to Maj. Hudson Chitwood of the Hamlet Police Department, two officers heard gunshots near the intersection of Rollins Avenue and Terry Street around 2:13 p.m. on Friday, November 22.

Shortly after, the officers reported seeing three individuals fleeing down the street.

One juvenile is suspected of shooting at a vehicle carrying 22-year-old Anthony Harrington-Galbreath and another juvenile.

According to reports, the two in the vehicle chased the initial shooter down Terry Street, shooting at him – right at the close officers.

One of the suspects was apparently apprehended by police, while the other two escaped. However, one of the two was apprehended and detained at gunpoint by a resident until cops arrived.

“I was proud that a Hamlet citizen was willing and able to assist us in detaining an armed suspect,” Chitwood told the reporter. “It shows a lot of bravery.”

All three were brought into prison and charged. Police do not divulge youngsters’ names due to their age.

During the inquiry, police reportedly seized four firearms, one of which was reported stolen.

Two of the accused are allegedly from Hamlet.

According to Chitwood, the suspects were arrested before the nearby Fairview Heights Elementary School was locked down.

Harrington-Galbreath was held at the Richmond County Jail on a $150,000 secured bond until Monday afternoon, when he was released on charges of attempted first-degree murder, firing a firearm within city limits, and going armed to the horror of the people.

(Note: The RO was unable to locate his charges on eCourts Monday).

Harrington-Galbreath appears to have no previous convictions in North Carolina.

All defendants who face criminal charges are deemed innocent until proven guilty in court.
