The News & Observer offers a weekly compilation of restaurant cleanliness scores to keep you informed about the health ratings at Triangle restaurants.
Sanitation scores and letter grades are used in North Carolina to evaluate restaurants’ compliance with rules and standards designed to reduce and prevent the spread of food-borne illnesses.
You’ve most likely seen sanitation grade cards at restaurants, and The N&O has already described what those grades mean and how they’re determined.
Here are the Triangle counties’ sanitation scores for the week of December 31-January 6.
Wake County sanitation scores
The Wake County inspection management system shows that 86 restaurant inspections were completed Dec. 31-Jan. 6.
- Most restaurants received an A grade, or a score of at least 90%.
- Three restaurants received a B grade, or a score of at least 80% but lower than 90%.
Julians International Restaurant And Deli (2215 New Hope Church Rd. in Raleigh) received a score of 88% during an inspection on Friday, Jan 3.
- The restaurant was in violation of 12 standards.
- Violations included raw meats and raw whole shell eggs stored above cooked foods in a refrigerator, several plates stored as clean had food debris and splatter and a container of tripe soup and beef stew was incorrectly cooling from the day before.
- Some violations were corrected during the inspection.
- The restaurant previously scored 93% in June 2024 and 92% in February 2024.
Jumbo China (404 E Six Forks Rd #183 in Raleigh) received a score of 87% during an inspection on Monday, Jan. 6.
- The restaurant was in violation of 14 standards.
- Violations included raw chicken boxes being reused for storage of ready-to-eat egg rolls, packages of cooked pork commingled with raw shrimp in the walk-in cooler and an employee seen handling raw steak and then immediately grabbing a container of fried wontons without washing hands.
- Some violations were corrected during the inspection.
- The restaurant previously scored 93% in April 2024 and 94% in December 2023.
The Curry Club (3281 Avent Ferry Rd #117 in Raleigh) received a score of 88.5% during an inspection on Tuesday, Dec. 31.
- The restaurant was in violation of 10 standards.
- Violations included uncovered raw shrimp stored above ready-to-eat fried cauliflower and sauces inside reach-in cooler, raw ground chicken stored over ready-to-eat sauces and produce inside walk-in cooler and a large pot of cut onions stored directly on the floor inside the main prep area.
- Some violations were corrected during the inspection.
- The restaurant previously scored 95.5% in September 2024.
- The Curry Club was previously called Dharani Express Indian Restaurant, according to its website .

Durham County sanitation scores
The Durham County inspection management system shows 35 restaurant inspections were completed Dec. 31-Jan. 6.
- Most restaurants received an A grade.
- Two restaurants received a B grade.
IHOP (1821 N Pointe Dr. in Durham) received a score of 80% during an inspection on Monday, Jan. 6.
- The restaurant was in violation of 19 standards.
- Violations included employees handling cooked biscuits and sliced cheese with bare hands and some who exited and reentered the kitchen and building during the inspection and continued food preparation without washing their hands with soap. Several foods in a walk-in cooler, including raw bacon, sauces and egg whites, were above the necessary temperature.
- Some violations were corrected during the inspection.
- The restaurant previously scored 91.5% and 89.5% in August 2024.
Kiichi Ramen (730 9th St. in Durham) received a score of 86% during an inspection on Thursday, Jan. 2.
- The restaurant was in violation of 12 standards.
- Violations included an employee placing a bowl that was used for eggs back on the clean dish shelf without washing, multiple items in the low reach-in freezer stored uncovered and a food employee seen changing tasks, then washing equipment with gloved hands, and then returning to food preparation without washing hands or changing gloves.
- Some violations were corrected during the inspection.
- The restaurant previously scored 92% in April 2024 and 93% in January 2024.

Orange County sanitation scores
The Orange County inspection management system shows that six restaurant inspections were completed Dec. 31-Jan. 6.
- All restaurants received an A grade.

The Johnston County inspection management system shows that 17 restaurant inspections were completed Dec. 31-Jan. 6.
