The National Weather Service (NWS) in Morristown, Tennessee, has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for parts of East Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, and Southwest North Carolina, predicting snow, strong winds, and possible heavy precipitation in the following days.
Snow Showers and Winter Weather Advisory
Snow showers are expected to fall across the region this afternoon as a cold front moves through. Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are expected in the mountains of East Tennessee and southwest Virginia through this evening. A Winter Weather Advisory is in force in these regions.
Strong Winds and High Wind Warnings
Strong, gusty winds persist this morning in the East Tennessee mountains, with gusts approaching 60 mph at times. A High Wind Warning has been issued for areas of the mountains and neighboring foothills, while a Wind Advisory is still in place for Carter and Johnson counties in Tennessee. The winds are forecast to progressively lessen over the morning.
Wintry Precipitation Possible Friday into Saturday
