The term “Passport Bros” refers to Alabama males who travel to underdeveloped countries in search of a romance, sometimes motivated by the belief that women in these places are more traditional or obedient than in their own country.
This movement has gained steam on social media sites, where people share their experiences and tips for seeking such partnerships.
However, this growth has come with major risks. In places such as Colombia, there have been reports of men being targeted by criminal schemes involving drugging and robbery.
For example, in Medellin, some men have been robbed by women who used scopolamine, a powerful narcotic that may render people unconscious, to steal their goods. In other situations, these interactions resulted in fatalities.
Furthermore, health risks are common in countries frequented by Passport Bros, like as the Philippines. According to DW News, the country is a popular location for males looking for mates, yet there has been a considerable increase in HIV infections.
Between 2010 and 2023, the country experienced a 543% increase in new HIV diagnoses, with over half of new infections in 2024 happening among those aged 15 to 24.
Men from Alabama who are considering joining the Passport Bros movement should be aware of the potential health concerns and criminal activity linked with seeking a wife elsewhere.
