The United States Postal Service is taking part in a nationwide day of remembrance to honor former President Jimmy Carter, who died on Sunday, December 29, at the age of 100.
The day of observation will be Thursday, January 9. President Joe Biden signed an executive order for the national day of mourning, closing executive departments and agencies across the federal government.
What does this mean for North Carolina’s post offices?
Will mail be delivered on Thursday?
USPS facilities in North Carolina and across the country will be closed on Thursday, except for “limited package delivery,” the postal agency announced. This means that regular mail delivery, as well as retail and office operations, will be interrupted.
Limited package delivery service will continue on Thursday “to ensure the organization does not experience any impacts to its package delivery operations that may negatively affect customers or business partners,” according to a USPS press statement.
Customers will continue to be able to track parcels, purchase stamps, and locate USPS locations, including self-service kiosks, through the usps.com website.
When will I get my Thursday mail?
The USPS said mail delivery will resume on Friday, Jan. 10, following the national day of remembrance.
