Raleigh, NC – Residents across North Carolina are braced for slick conditions as a Winter Weather Advisory takes effect at midnight. Freezing rain is anticipated to make roads and walkways treacherous until Monday morning.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), Granville, Halifax, Person, Vance, and Warren counties may have small ice accumulations. Roads, bridges, and overpasses are likely to turn dangerously slippery, especially during the Monday morning commute.
Residents are asked to slow down, exercise extreme caution while traveling, and allow additional time to reach their objectives. The NWS also recommends planning for potential power disruptions due to ice accumulation on power lines. Drivers can check the most recent road conditions by dialing 511.
The advisory will be in force until noon Monday. Temperatures are forecast to climb somewhat in the afternoon, improving conditions. However, freezing rain may resume later this week as temperatures fall below freezing again.
The five-day outlook expects highs in the low 40s through Thursday, with lows near freezing. Rain is forecast for midweek, which might convert to ice if temperatures drop swiftly.
Stay up to date by checking local forecasts and following travel advisories. Taking steps now can help prevent accidents and provide a safer start to the week.
