A North Carolina mother is in jail after reportedly depriving her 4-year-old daughter of solid nourishment for six months, causing her to be “severely malnourished.”
Sarah Weber, 28, is accused with child neglect and serious bodily injury, according to court records. According to the warrant, police went to Weber’s residence in Charlotte on Saturday and located the girl. Weber informed officials that the toddler had been suffering from diarrhea for approximately a month. The girl hadn’t eaten solid foods in half a year.
Police say Weber also failed to take the child to the doctor during that time.
“This led to the minor child to be severely malnourished [which] was confirmed by a doctor,” the warrant claimed. “Due to the severity of the malnutrition, the minor child was admitted to the hospital for further evaluation.”

Police transported Weber to the Mecklenburg County Jail, where she is being held on a $25,000 bond.
Charlotte ABC affiliate WSOC met with the owner of the residence where Weber lives, who confirmed that she was the mother of the underweight 4-year-old.
Neighbor Jacqueline Wade told the publication that she spotted three police cruisers outside the residence, followed by an ambulance.
“It’s definitely very saddening, right?,” the woman replied. “So you could be in close proximity to someone and not know the extent of suffering.”
Weber’s next court date is set for Monday. Court filings showed that she did not have an attorney. The warrant didn’t disclose what happened to the child.
