A viral video showing a mother and a Dollar Tree employee arguing about a knife a little child picked up in the store has elicited a variety of opinions online.
The video, which was purportedly taken at a Dollar Tree in Marietta, Georgia, opens with two ladies fighting over custody of what looks to be a pocket knife and disputing about where the blade was placed in plain sight of other customers and employees.
“Let it go!” one woman yells. “I’m showing you what you left for my daughter.”
“That’s mine!” the store worker responds.
“Nobody was attacking you with it!” the woman explains.
“You stepped into my space!” the store employee responds.
“You just grabbed it out of my hand, and I’m showing what you left!” the other woman protests. “You said you didn’t care that my daughter picked this up…” She’s 2! She’s 2!”
Some customers are seen attempting to interfere and de-escalate the situation, begging the lady to drop the knife.
After a witness removes the knife, the mother threatens to strike the staff member in the face before seething over why the blade was clumsily left in a location within a toddler’s reach.
“You had the knife! “You sat there and told me you didn’t care that (my daughter) had it because I should have been watching her,” the lady yells at the staffer. “She’s two, and it’s lying down! You were not compassionate or empathetic, and you did not even apologize!”
The employee walks away from the incident, and another employee is seen attempting to calm the mother’s rage by informing her that his coworker has left and the police have been called.
“You got the wrong one!” the mother yells as the video concludes.
The altercation reportedly began when the cashier left her knife out in the open at her station. The mother began interrogating the cashier about why she left the weapon out after her daughter got hold of it, resulting in a heated discussion. It does not appear that anyone was physically injured during the incident.
After Spiritual World aired a video of the disturbance, it received hundreds of comments on social media from people who disagreed on who was to blame for the scenario.
“Your child is your responsibility,” one user wrote.
“Toddlers get into everything. Another person remarked that an open knife left by an employee should not have been laying around in general.
“I am siding with the mother on this. Imagine that toddler rushing around with that knife, tripping and falling. This would have been fatal and sad. We must use greater caution. “As a nurse, I am concerned,” someone another wrote.
