Disability benefits will start for Supplemental Security Income recipients on December 31, 2024. If you qualify for both SSDI and SSI, you will get your first payment with the 2025 COLA rise just before New Year’s Day. The first Social Security Disability Insurance payment will be made on January 3, 2025.
Only two distinct sets of receivers can receive this monthly payment on the third. To be eligible, you must have been receiving benefits before to May 1997 or be receiving both Supplemental Security Income and Social Security Disability Insurance simultaneously. SSDI payments on January 8, 15, or 22 with COLA

- you got benefits after April 30, 1997, but not before
SSDI payment amounts for January 2025
The payout amount for SSDI benefits is determined by payroll taxes paid to SSA, years worked, and age of application. The average Disability Insurance check and deposit amount is $1,542.
In 2025, the maximum SSDI benefit payout will increase to $4,018 from $3,822 in 2024. Few workers can qualify since they must have earned the taxed maximum for 35 years.
