Washington – House Minority Leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., condemned Thanksgiving Day threats against Democratic lawmakers, which ranged from “detailed threats of a pipe bomb placed in mailboxes to swatting” in a statement on Friday.
Thursday, bomb threats were made at the homes of several Democrats from Connecticut in the House, such as Reps. Jahana Hayes, Jim Himes, and Joe Courtney.
The quick action of the police meant that no devices were found, and Jeffries wrote that Members of Congress and their families were safe over the holiday.
The threats against Democrats were signed with “MAGA,” which stands for “Make America Great Again,” which is Donald Trump’s campaign slogan.
The threats came a day after similar ones were sent to some of Trump’s cabinet nominees.
“Liberty rules in America.” Threats of violence against elected officials are terrible and should not happen in a civilized society. “All people who cause political violence against any party must be punished to the fullest extent of the law,” Jeffries wrote.
