President-elect Donald Trump stated Friday that he supports removing daylight saving time, calling it “inconvenient” and “very costly,” as his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) directors advocate for action.
“The Republican Party will make every attempt to repeal Daylight Saving Time, which has a small but powerful constituency, but it shouldn’t! “Daylight Saving Time is inconvenient and costly to our country,” Trump wrote on Truth Social Friday.
In 2019, Trump stated, “Making Daylight Saving Time permanent is O.K. with me,” but now he looks to be changing his mind. This comes as his DOGE directors, Tesla and X CEO Elon Musk and Republican businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, have called for the time shift to be abolished.
“Looks like the people want to abolish the annoying time change,” Musk wrote in response to an X poll calling for the abolition of Daylight Saving Time.
“It’s inefficient and easy to change,” Ramaswamy replied.
Any revisions would need to be approved by Congress, and legislation on the subject has been proposed in recent years.
