Thousands without power after Sunday morning storms

Thousands of people are without power after strong storms hit the Upstate and western North Carolina foothills.

According to a Duke Energy outage map, personnel are attempting to restore power to over 2,000 customers in Greenville and Greenwood counties, over 1,000 in Anderson County, and 597 in Spartanburg County.

Broad River Electric Co-Op, which serves areas of the Upstate, has also reported more than 500 customers without power.

Severe thunderstorms and heavy winds swept through the Upstate and foothills on Sunday morning. As storms raced through the region, tornado warnings were issued in multiple counties.

These warnings have since expired, however a flash flood warning is still in place for Transylvania County.
