NEW YORK (WPIX) The family of Luigi Mangione, the 26-year-old man suspected of murdering UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City, has issued a statement following his arrest on Monday.
“Our family was stunned and grieved by Luigi’s imprisonment. We express our sympathies to Brian Thompson’s family and urge that everyone pray for all affected. “We are devastated by this news,” the suspect’s cousin, Delegate Nino Mangione, said in a statement.
Luigi Mangione was captured earlier today after being recognized at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania. According to the criminal complaint, he was found with a ghost pistol, ammo, and a silencer.
According to the affidavit, he also gave officers a false New Jersey driver’s license.
An online court docket shows that Manhattan prosecutors charged Luigi Mangione with murder and other offenses late Monday.
He was also accused in Pennsylvania with possessing an unlicensed firearm, forgery, and giving police false identification. He remains in jail.
Pennsylvania officials said they will file a fugitive of justice case to extradite Mangione to New York.
